Jordan, Canada Discuss Bilateral Ties and Regional Developments
Amman, The Gulf Observer: Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand held a telephone conversation on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations and the latest developments in the Middle East, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
According to a statement issued by Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers emphasized the longstanding friendship between Jordan and Canada and expressed their shared determination to expand collaboration across a range of sectors.
The discussion also focused on the repercussions of the recent regional escalation. Both sides stressed the importance of preserving the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and resuming negotiations aimed at achieving a comprehensive solution that addresses the root causes of regional tensions while ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Addressing the situation in Gaza, Safadi underscored the need to implement all provisions of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan and called for the removal of Israeli restrictions that continue to hinder the delivery of adequate humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, which he described as facing a severe humanitarian catastrophe.
Safadi also briefed his Canadian counterpart on the worsening situation in the occupied West Bank, attributing the deterioration to continued illegal Israeli measures that, he said, further entrench the occupation and heighten the risk of renewed escalation.
The Jordanian foreign minister commended Canada for its continued support for the two-state solution and its efforts to promote regional security, stability, and a just and lasting peace.
The two ministers also exchanged views on a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest, reaffirming the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation in addressing shared challenges.
