Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Speaker Highlights Importance of Stronger Parliamentary Cooperation

Baku, The Gulf Observer; Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation among international and regional parliamentary organizations to facilitate experience-sharing, address common challenges and ensure that regional priorities receive greater representation on the global agenda.

Gafarova made the remarks during a meeting with heads and representatives of diplomatic missions in Geneva as part of her working visit to the Swiss Confederation.

The Speaker highlighted the international activities of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis and its engagement with various regional and international parliamentary organizations.

Particular attention was given to the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, which was established in 2021 at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev.

Gafarova said Azerbaijan’s chairmanship had provided significant momentum to the Network’s activities, contributing to the development of its institutional structures and strengthening its cooperation with regional and international parliamentary organizations.

She noted that events organized by the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network have brought together more than 1,000 participants, including parliamentary speakers and members of parliament from more than 70 countries.

The Speaker stressed that stronger interaction among parliamentary institutions can contribute to closer international dialogue, the exchange of legislative experience and more effective joint responses to challenges affecting different regions.

She also underlined the importance of ensuring that the perspectives and priorities of various regions are appropriately reflected in discussions shaping the international agenda.
