Indonesia Confirms 430-Athlete Contingent for 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia has officially confirmed a 430-athlete contingent to compete in 35 sports at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, with the final number reduced by two from the previously registered lineup.

President of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari confirmed the composition of the contingent during an event at the Wisma Serbaguna complex in Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno area on Wednesday.

Indonesian Contingent Chef de Mission (CdM) Todotua Pasaribu said the number of athletes had stood at 432 during the entry-by-name stage before being finalized at 430 following the Delegation Registration Meeting (DRM).

The CdM report did not identify the two athletes or the sports from which they were withdrawn.

“The Indonesian Team contingent will be made up of 430 athletes and 145 officials across 35 sports,” Todotua said.

In addition, Indonesia has prepared 78 support personnel, including doctors, masseurs, physiotherapists and headquarters staff, to assist the contingent throughout its stay in Japan.

Todotua said the CdM team, in coordination with NOC Indonesia and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, had undertaken extensive preparations for the Games. These included visits to sports federations, coordination with team managers and officials, and various forms of support for athletes.

Several members of the Indonesian contingent have already departed for Japan. The basketball and fencing teams were among the first groups to leave after their travel arrangements were adjusted following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

The two teams traveled overland to Surabaya before continuing their journey by air through Singapore to Japan.

Todotua said the CdM team would ensure that athletes’ non-technical requirements, including accommodation, transportation and support services, were properly managed, enabling them to concentrate fully on their respective competitions.

The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are scheduled to be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
