Abha, Riyadh Airports Targeted in Attacks; 3 Dead, 36 Injured

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Three people, including two women, were killed and 36 others injured in separate attacks targeting Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by GACA, the two airports came under separate attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting emergency response teams and relevant authorities to respond immediately in accordance with established protocols and emergency response plans.

The attack on Abha International Airport claimed the lives of two expatriate women, a Moroccan national and an Algerian national, while 28 people, including Saudi citizens and foreign residents, sustained injuries ranging from serious to minor.

Among the injured residents were nationals of Bangladesh and the Philippines, GACA said.

At King Khalid International Airport, a Sudanese resident was killed and eight others sustained injuries in the attack on Wednesday. The injured included five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian residents and one Pakistani resident, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

All those injured in both attacks were immediately shifted to hospitals for medical treatment, according to GACA.

The attacks also caused damage to property at the affected airports.

GACA said it was coordinating with the relevant authorities to assess the extent of the damage, verify the safety of airport facilities and take all necessary measures to protect passengers and ensure the security and continuity of operations across the Kingdom’s civil aviation system.

The authority reaffirmed that emergency procedures had been activated promptly in response to the incidents.
