International Women’s Dialogue on Peace and Sustainable Development Opens in Turkmenistan

Avaza, The Gulf Observer: The International Women’s Dialogue titled “The Role of Women in Maintaining Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development” opened Wednesday in the Avaza National Tourist Zone of Turkmenistan, bringing together senior officials, diplomats, international organizations and experts to discuss women’s role in peacebuilding and sustainable development.

The dialogue focuses on the United Nations “Women, Peace and Security” agenda, women’s participation in preventive diplomacy and their contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Participants are discussing legal and institutional mechanisms aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for women in public administration, economic activities and peacebuilding processes.

The event has brought together representatives of legislative bodies, diplomatic missions, international organizations and the expert community from several countries.

Among the speakers were Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova; Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko; Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services of Türkiye Sevim Sayım Madak; Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and Chairwoman of the Committee on Family and Women Dilnozakhon Kattakhonova; Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development Natalia Pavlyuchenko; Kazakhstan’s Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova; and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh Malvajerd.

Representatives from the United Nations, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan also addressed the dialogue.

Discussions at the forum are centered on strengthening women’s participation in decision-making, preventive diplomacy and international cooperation, while examining ways to advance gender equality and sustainable development.

According to the report, the dialogue’s final recommendations and proposals will emphasize further strengthening the legal protection of women, promoting their active participation in international cooperation and advancing initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable peace.

The forum underscores the growing importance of women’s meaningful participation in peacebuilding and development efforts and highlights the need for stronger legal and institutional frameworks to support their role in these areas.
