Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan has reaffirmed its principled support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian question, calling for political and diplomatic efforts to resolve conflicts, protect civilians and prevent further escalation in the Middle East.

According to Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry, the country conveyed its position during the United Nations Security Council’s quarterly open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, held at UN Headquarters under the presidency of Greece. The meeting featured 70 speakers.

Ramiz Alakbarov, Acting UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, delivered the main briefing, while Kazakhstan was represented by its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Kairat Umarov.

In his statement, Umarov expressed concern over continuing tensions in the region and underscored the importance of pursuing political and diplomatic solutions to outstanding conflicts. He stressed the need for restraint and concerted international efforts to prevent further escalation.

Kazakhstan reiterated its support for the two-state solution and the New York Declaration as a framework for advancing concrete steps towards achieving this objective.

Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance, protecting civilians and supporting the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza. Umarov also highlighted the central role of the United Nations in addressing the crisis, including through the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Kazakhstan expressed its readiness to make a practical contribution to Gaza’s stabilisation and recovery, particularly in civilian reconstruction, food security and digitalisation. In this regard, the country encouraged international partners to utilise the potential of the Astana-based Islamic Organization for Food Security to support humanitarian and food-security initiatives.

The statement also highlighted Kazakhstan’s intention to join the Abraham Accords, which it views as an additional platform for supporting the UN-led political process towards a two-state solution.

Concluding his remarks, Umarov called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prioritise dialogue and diplomacy. He reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to constructive international engagement aimed at promoting peace, stability and a lasting political settlement in the Middle East.
