Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia’s trade with Russia reached US$4.84 billion in 2025, marking a 21.6 percent increase from US$3.98 billion in the previous year, as both countries seek to strengthen economic cooperation and expand trade and investment ties.

The figures were shared by Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, during discussions with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov on enhancing bilateral economic relations.

Hartarto said Indonesia and Russia had significant potential to deepen mutually beneficial economic cooperation, emphasizing the need to increase trade and investment, expand partnerships between businesses and translate cooperation opportunities into tangible benefits for both countries.

The two sides held their meeting on Friday, October 16, and discussed progress on the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union (I-EAEU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA), whose ratification process is nearing completion.

Once ratified, the agreement is expected to enter into force soon, providing Indonesian products with broader access to markets across Eurasian Economic Union member states and further strengthening bilateral and regional trade relations.

Key Indonesian products expected to benefit from expanded market access include palm oil, coffee, cocoa, textiles and furniture. Other major commodities traded between Indonesia and Russia include agricultural products and fertilizers.

The discussions also covered potential cooperation in strategic sectors, particularly shipping and aviation, alongside efforts to enhance Indonesia’s domestic industrial capacity.

Indonesia also welcomed the participation of a Russian business delegation at Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026, describing the event as an opportunity to strengthen business-to-business engagement and develop new commercial partnerships.

Manturov highlighted the importance of closer ties between business communities in expanding bilateral trade. He said the Russian delegation’s participation in TEI 2026 continued the momentum of trade engagement following Indonesia’s participation as a partner country at the INNOPROM exhibition in Yekaterinburg in July 2026.

According to Manturov, Russian companies participated in business-to-business meetings with prospective Indonesian partners, as well as a business forum featuring thematic sessions on trade, investment and industrial cooperation.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation across several strategic areas, including agriculture, technology, industry and supply chain development.

The latest discussions reflect the two countries’ efforts to diversify economic partnerships, improve market access and strengthen commercial ties through greater business engagement and regional trade integration.
