President Ilham Aliyev Criticises Double Standards, Emphasises Respect for National Sovereignty

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has criticised what he described as double standards in international relations, stressing that no country has the moral authority to dictate to an independent nation how it should live or conduct its affairs.

Addressing the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, President Aliyev questioned the legitimacy of countries lecturing others on their domestic affairs without first examining their own conduct.

“Double standards are also when someone wants to teach you how to live. Though prior to doing so, you should look in the mirror and ask yourself: Do you have the moral right to lecture someone, to teach someone, to lecture an independent country on how to live, what to do, and what not to do?” he said.

The Azerbaijani president emphasised that his country refrains from interfering in the internal affairs of other states and instead focuses on its own responsibilities and national priorities.

“We never do that. We concentrate on our own homework, and what is happening in other countries is the business of the peoples of those countries. It is none of our business,” Aliyev stated.

His remarks highlighted the importance of respecting national sovereignty and allowing nations to determine their own political, social and cultural paths without external interference.

The 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue provides a platform for international leaders and representatives to discuss intercultural understanding, mutual respect and cooperation amid global challenges.
