Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening cooperation, solidarity and mutual support among member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), emphasising the need for coordinated international efforts to combat corruption.

According to Azerbaijan’s state news agency AZERTAC, Aliyev made these remarks in a message to participants of the Third Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities of OIC Member States, held in Baku.

The Azerbaijani president stated that his country attaches particular importance to developing cooperation and promoting solidarity within the OIC framework, consistently working towards achieving these objectives.

Highlighting the serious consequences of corruption, Aliyev said the crime undermines public trust in state institutions and damages social justice, fair competition and economic development.

He noted that the transnational nature of certain corruption-related offences requires coordinated responses at both national and international levels.

In this context, the president underscored the strategic importance of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention of OIC Member States on Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Cooperation, describing it as a key document establishing a common legal framework for cooperation in combating corruption.

Aliyev further emphasised the importance of Azerbaijan’s accession to the convention in strengthening international collaboration and enhancing joint efforts against corruption-related crimes.

The meeting in Baku reflects ongoing efforts among OIC member states to improve cooperation between law enforcement authorities, strengthen legal mechanisms and promote greater accountability and transparency in addressing corruption.
