Azerbaijan Approves Action Plan for Shusha as Cultural Capital of the Islamic World 2024
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan has taken a significant step in recognizing Shusha as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2024 by approving the action plan for its declaration. Prime Minister Ali Asadov signed the relevant decree, empowering the Ministry of Culture to coordinate the plan’s implementation.
The approved action plan outlines key steps and operations, with funding allocated from Azerbaijan’s state budget for 2024 and other legal sources. The Department of Humanitarian Affairs of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers will oversee the execution of the decree.
The historic city of Shusha, located in the heart of Azerbaijan, was liberated from Armenian occupation on November 8, 2020, marking a pivotal moment in Azerbaijan’s history. Following its liberation, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on November 21, 2023, designating Shusha as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2024.
The city holds immense cultural and historical significance, and this recognition underscores its importance not only for Azerbaijan but for the entire Caucasus region.
