President Jokowi Urges Patience Amidst Quick Count Results in 2024 Presidential Election
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo, in an address on Thursday, called upon the public to await the final results of the voting recapitulation for the 2024 Presidential Election, currently under the purview of the General Elections Commission (KPU). The President’s statement comes in response to quick count results released by various survey agencies on Wednesday afternoon, suggesting that the presidential-vice presidential candidate pair, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, are leading in the polls.
“Quick count is a scientific method. However, we should wait for the official results from the KPU. Be patient,” President Jokowi emphasized during the inauguration of the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) held in Jakarta.
The President also urged citizens to report any instances of electoral fraud promptly to the authorities, directing them to contact the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and the Constitutional Court. These agencies are authorized to investigate and rule on election violations and complaints.
With more than 204 million Indonesian voters participating in the election on February 14, the country witnessed the democratic process unfold, including the selection of the president and vice president, members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and regional legislatures (DPRD) at the provincial, city, and district levels.
The three candidate pairs competing for national leadership include Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar as candidate number one; Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as candidate number two; and Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD as candidate number three.
As per KPU Regulation No. 3 of 2022, the nationwide vote recapitulation for the 2024 Election is scheduled to transpire from February 15 to March 20, 2024. President Joko Widodo’s call for patience underscores the importance of relying on the official results from the KPU to ensure the credibility and integrity of the electoral process. The nation remains vigilant as it eagerly awaits the conclusive outcome of this significant democratic event.
