Astana Prepares for Spectacular V World Nomad Games with 500 Yurts Set to Transform Ethnic Village

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, is gearing up for the grandeur of the V World Nomad Games, set to take place with a remarkable addition of 500 traditional yurts in the ethnic village, according to media reports.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sport convened an extended meeting on Friday, February 16, to discuss the results of the year 2023 and outline the tasks for 2024 in the realm of tourism. Deputy Chief of the Directorate for the organization of the V World Nomad Games, Abylai Kondybayev, provided insights into the preparation for this global event.

Kondybayev revealed that over 4,000 athletes hailing from more than 100 countries are anticipated to participate in the Games, drawing a projected audience of over 100,000 tourists to Astana. As part of the immersive experience, 500 yurts will be installed in the ethnic village within the capital city, creating an authentic ambiance for visitors.

The V World Nomad Games will feature a diverse program comprising 20 competitions, including traditional sports such as Asyk Atu, Ordo, Tug of War (Arkan Tartys), Baige, Kokpar, and others. The opening ceremony is slated to be held at the Astana Arena stadium, while the closing ceremony will unfold at the 10,000-seat Kazanat hippodrome, promising a blend of cultural richness and sporting excellence.

In previous editions, the World Nomad Games were hosted in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan (2014, 2016, 2018), and Türkiye took the helm in 2022. Kazakhstan, as the host for the V World Nomad Games, has allocated 8 billion tenge for the event’s organization, involving the participation of 1,000 local and foreign volunteers.

The upcoming spectacle promises to showcase the rich nomadic heritage of Kazakhstan while fostering international camaraderie through sports and cultural exchanges. The teaser presented in January has heightened anticipation for a truly immersive and memorable World Nomad Games experience.
