Kyrgyz President toughens penalties for child abuse
Bishkek, The Gulf Observer: The President of Kyrgyzstan approved amendments to the Criminal Code, the Law on the Basics of Amnesty and the Procedure for its Application.
The law was passed by the Parliament on June 30. The document was signed to implement the reform in the sphere of child protection and is aimed at ensuring the protection of the rights to sexual integrity, as well as the life and health of children from criminal encroachments.
In accordance with the law, the terms of imprisonment and the amount of fines for committing crimes against sexual integrity, spiritual and moral health of children are increased. In addition, the perpetrators of such crimes will not be exempted from criminal liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, mental illness or temporary mental disorder. Parole and amnesty will not be applied to these persons.
