Astana Set to Host SCO Foreign Ministers’ Council Meeting
Astana, The Gulf Observer: The Kazakh capital, Astana is set to host a pivotal gathering as the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states convenes on May 21, 2024. This announcement was relayed by the Official Spokesperson of the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aibek Smadyarov, during a weekly briefing on May 13, as reported by media.
The esteemed meeting will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, underscoring the nation’s pivotal role in facilitating regional cooperation within the SCO framework.
Key participants include foreign ministers from SCO member states, alongside the SCO Secretary-General and the Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS).
According to Smadyarov, the agenda will encompass a comprehensive review of the preparations for the forthcoming SCO Heads of State Summit, slated to be hosted in Astana later this year.
“The heads of delegations will engage in substantive discussions encompassing the international and regional landscape, with particular emphasis on security matters and collaboration within the SCO framework across political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres,” highlighted Smadyarov.
The meeting is slated to culminate with the signing of several significant decisions pertinent to the finalization of documents for the upcoming SCO Summit, in addition to the adoption of an informative statement, further fortifying the organization’s resolve towards fostering regional stability and cooperation.
