President Tokayev Delivers Lecture on Middle Powers in Singapore

Singapore, The Gulf Observer: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a lecture titled “Kazakhstan and the Role of Middle Powers: Promoting Security, Stability, and Sustainable Development” during his state visit to Singapore, according to Akorda.

President Tokayev addressed the 46th Singapore Lecture, an esteemed platform organized by the ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute since 1980. These lectures offer a unique opportunity for academic circles, politicians, diplomats, and young scholars to engage with the perspectives of global leaders and prominent politicians.

In his speech, President Tokayev emphasized the crucial role of middle powers in fostering global security, stability, and sustainable development. He highlighted how countries like Kazakhstan can contribute significantly to addressing global challenges.

Welcoming the audience, President Tokayev reflected on his personal connection to Singapore, noting its impact on his career and vision.

“I worked here as a young diplomat many decades ago and I’m glad to come back to see firsthand how your country continues to achieve great success,” said Tokayev. “Indeed, the remarkable economic changes of Singapore undertaken under the visionary leadership of its founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, is a prime example of successful state building and economic growth. Your country inspires Kazakhstan to choose its own path toward progress and prosperity. It’s clear that the invaluable experience I gained during my stay in Singapore influenced my vision of the future of Kazakhstan in this rapidly changing world.”

President Tokayev’s lecture underscored the shared aspirations of Kazakhstan and Singapore, highlighting the importance of learning from each other’s experiences to achieve common goals. The event was well-received by the attendees, who appreciated the insights shared by the Kazakh leader on the evolving role of middle powers in the global arena.
