China Seeks to Jointly Safeguard Regional Peace with Cambodia: Wang Yi

China and Cambodia Pledge to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea on Friday, emphasizing China’s commitment to enhancing coordination with Cambodia to jointly safeguard regional peace.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, expressed China’s readiness to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and share development opportunities with Cambodia. He highlighted China’s willingness to advance significant projects such as the Industrial Development Corridor and the Fish and Rice Corridor, and to explore the potential of a water conservancy project.

In addition, Wang encouraged more Chinese-funded enterprises to invest in Cambodia and shared China’s experiences in building special economic zones. He underscored the importance of the China-Cambodia People-to-People Exchange Year 2024, which aims to strengthen the public foundation of the China-Cambodia community with a shared future.

China looks forward to collaborating with regional countries, including Cambodia, to overcome external disruptions and safeguard the common and legitimate interests of regional nations, Wang added.

Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and its support for China’s efforts to safeguard its core interests. He expressed Cambodia’s readiness to promote pragmatic cooperation with China and to create a favorable environment for Chinese companies to invest in the country.

Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure construction, connectivity, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, special economic zones, and human resources development. They also committed to deepening people-to-people cooperation in education, tourism, youth, and vocational training.

This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening the strategic partnership between China and Cambodia, fostering regional stability, and promoting shared development goals.
