Oman Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Withdrawal of Israeli Forces from Gaza
Geneva, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman has emphasized the urgent need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, calling for an end to human suffering by halting aggression and ensuring the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the region. This statement was delivered by His Excellency Ambassador Idris bin Abdul Rahman Al Khanjari, Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, during an interactive dialogue session on the report of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel.
Ambassador Al Khanjari expressed Oman’s reservations about attempts to present a balanced position that equates the occupying party with those who have suffered for over half a century.
“The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman thanks the fact-finding committee for its report, which calls for examining what happened on October 7 and the events that followed within its context,” His Excellency stated, noting that these events were preceded by decades of occupation, pain, frustration, and deprivation of basic legitimate rights to live in dignity.
Ambassador Al Khanjari highlighted the tragic events in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, exposing the reality of the occupying state and its inhumane practices to the world. He pointed out that these events revealed the deception promoted by the Israeli narrative for decades and showed the United Nations’ inability to overcome the policy of double standards due to the dominance of certain member states.
The Sultanate of Oman agrees with some aspects of the committee’s report, which documents war crimes committed by Israel, including the killing of thousands of civilians, children, women, and the elderly; wounding more than 130,000 people; and causing the starvation and displacement of two million civilians. Additionally, systematic destruction and targeting of civilian facilities, hospitals, schools, and universities were noted.
Ambassador Al Khanjari stressed the necessity of opening crossings, allowing displaced individuals to return to their homes, lifting the siege, and accelerating the entry of humanitarian aid and commercial goods. He also called for the development of a reconstruction map for Gaza.
Oman supports the committee’s demand for Israel to comply with the temporary measures approved by the International Court of Justice. This includes allowing current or future investigation teams to operate in all affected areas without restrictions, granting them the authority to collect evidence, reveal the facts, and hold accountable those responsible for war crimes, genocide, and violations of international laws and agreements.
The Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, justice, and the adherence to international law in resolving the ongoing conflict.
