Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The spirit of inclusion and athletic excellence took center stage yesterday as Abu Dhabi proudly hosted the 18th UAE Fitness Championship for People of Determination, under the inspiring theme “I Am an Athlete.” The event was organised by the Emirates Autism Centre and held under the generous patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence.
Drawing over 500 determined athletes from across the UAE, the championship brought together 60 educational and care institutions, including 35 public schools, 11 private schools, and 8 specialised centres. The event also witnessed the strong backing of 200 volunteers from various organisations, highlighting widespread national support for people of determination.
The vibrant opening ceremony welcomed a distinguished array of guests, including Afra Mohammed Al Sabri, Director-General of the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, Sherif Issa, Ambassador of Egypt to the UAE, and José Antonio, Chargé d’Affaires of the United Mexican States.
Throughout the day, athletes showcased their talents and resilience in a variety of competitive sports, promoting health, empowerment, and social inclusion. The event served not only as a celebration of athletic ability but also as a testament to the UAE’s ongoing commitment to providing inclusive opportunities for all members of society.
This year’s theme, “I Am an Athlete”, underscored the message that ability knows no boundaries, and that every individual—regardless of physical or cognitive challenges—has the right to thrive, compete, and be recognized for their strengths.
The championship continues to stand as a shining example of unity, tolerance, and human dignity, aligning with the UAE’s national values and forward-looking vision for an inclusive society.
