UAE President, European Council President Discuss Regional Security, Strengthen Strategic Cooperation

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: UAE President His Highness Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received António Costa, who is on a regional tour, to discuss pressing regional and international developments and avenues for enhanced cooperation.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the evolving situation in the region and its implications for peace and security at both regional and global levels. They highlighted the serious repercussions on maritime security, energy supplies, and the global economy amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

The discussions also addressed recent attacks attributed to Iran targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in the UAE and other countries in the region. Both sides noted that such actions constitute violations of international law and norms, undermining regional stability and security.

President Costa expressed the solidarity of the European Council with the United Arab Emirates and other regional states, affirming support for measures aimed at safeguarding security, stability, and the safety of their populations.

The meeting further explored various aspects of cooperation between the UAE, the European Union, and its member states. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and the Strategic Partnership Agreement, while emphasizing the importance of expanding collaboration in areas that serve mutual interests.

The meeting was attended by several senior UAE officials, including Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Mohamed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, among others.
