Azerbaijan, Belarus Discuss Expanding Military Cooperation During Defense Delegation Visit

Baku, The Gulf Observer: A Belarusian military delegation led by Colonel Dmitry Zhukovsky, Chief of the Troop Service Department of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense, paid an official visit to Azerbaijan under the 2026 Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan between the defense ministries of the two countries.
According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense, the visit was conducted within the framework of a working meeting focused on maintaining order and discipline and organizing the protection of military facilities.
During the visit, Chief of the Main Department of Internal Security and Investigations of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, Major General Azer Ibrahimov, met with the Belarusian delegation and welcomed the guests to Azerbaijan.
Major General Ibrahimov highlighted the strong ties between Azerbaijan and Belarus, noting that bilateral relations, built on friendship and brotherhood, are founded on mutual trust, confidence and support.
Colonel Dmitry Zhukovsky expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to the delegation and emphasized the importance of further expanding opportunities for military cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was also attended by the Belarusian Military Attaché accredited to Azerbaijan. During the discussions, members of the delegation were provided with detailed information about the activities and responsibilities of Azerbaijan’s Main Department of Internal Security and Investigations, while both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Military Police Department of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense. The guests laid flowers at the bust of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and paid tribute to his memory.
Deputy Chief of the Main Department of Internal Security and Investigations and Chief of the Military Police Department, Major General Elgun Aliyev, welcomed the delegation and stressed the significance of reciprocal visits in strengthening military cooperation and promoting the exchange of professional experience.
The Belarusian representatives were briefed on the history, organizational structure, functions, technical capabilities and training programs of the Military Police Department. The two sides also discussed a range of issues related to military policing, discipline and security.
The delegation further toured the department’s service facilities and sports infrastructure, gaining firsthand insight into its operational capabilities and training environment.
The visit concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photograph, reflecting the continued development of defense cooperation and friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus.
