Azerbaijan Highlights Role of Media in Building Trust and Regional Cooperation

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has highlighted the important role of media in strengthening confidence, mutual understanding and regional cooperation, describing the first-ever CICA Media Forum in Baku as a significant initiative.

In his address to participants of the CICA Media Forum on “Building Trust through Media in a Polarized World,” President Aliyev said the organization of the forum on Azerbaijan’s initiative, ahead of the CICA Summit, was particularly significant.

He noted that the event would help draw greater attention to the joint activities undertaken with CICA member states during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship, as well as to the organization’s important role on the international stage.

President Aliyev further emphasized that information and communication constitute an important and integral component of confidence-building efforts.

He said the media should be viewed not only as a broad platform for disseminating information but also as an important instrument of public diplomacy, mutual understanding and regional cooperation.

The forum was organized by the Media and Broadcasting Council in Baku and brought the role of media in promoting trust and dialogue to the forefront of discussions ahead of the upcoming CICA Summit.
