Azerbaijan, Iran Reaffirm Strong Ties as President Ilham Aliyev Meets Iranian Parliament Speaker

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday received a delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
During the meeting, President Aliyev expressed condolences to the people of Iran over the losses suffered during the recent conflict and reiterated Azerbaijan’s solidarity with its neighboring country. He noted that Azerbaijan had consistently supported Iran through diplomatic contacts and official statements, while welcoming the cessation of hostilities and expressing hope for lasting peace in the region.
The Azerbaijani president highlighted the importance of Ghalibaf’s participation in the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States in Baku, saying the gathering would contribute to strengthening Islamic solidarity. He also noted that Azerbaijan is preparing to host the next OIC Summit and emphasized the positive trajectory of Azerbaijan-Iran relations.
Ghalibaf conveyed greetings from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and thanked President Aliyev, the Azerbaijani government, and the Azerbaijani people for their support during what he described as a difficult period for Iran. He said Azerbaijan’s humanitarian assistance and political backing would be remembered by the Iranian people.
The Iranian parliament speaker stressed that the conflict had underscored the value of cooperation among Muslim countries and praised Azerbaijan for maintaining good-neighborly relations throughout the crisis. He described the support extended by Baku as a reflection of the longstanding friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
Both sides expressed confidence that Azerbaijan-Iran relations would continue to develop dynamically. They welcomed the completion of the Aghband-Kelaleh bridge project and noted that the Araz Corridor, passing through Iranian territory, would help expand regional transport connectivity and economic opportunities. Discussions also covered prospects for interparliamentary cooperation and the activities of the bilateral intergovernmental commission.
