Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan Sign Series of Agreements to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan signed a wide range of agreements and memorandums of understanding aimed at expanding cooperation across multiple sectors during a document exchange ceremony attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The ceremony was held on June 22 in Baku and highlighted the two countries’ commitment to strengthening strategic ties and enhancing cooperation in economic, trade, energy, social, and diplomatic fields.
At the outset, President Ilham Aliyev and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a Joint Statement reaffirming their commitment to broadening bilateral relations and cooperation.
Among the key documents exchanged were agreements on customs cooperation, including technical specifications for the initial exchange of information on goods and vehicles transported between the two countries and a protocol on cooperation in customs statistics related to mutual trade.
The two sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on sports cooperation, aimed at promoting collaboration in physical education, sports development, and exchanges between relevant institutions.
Additional agreements covered labor and social protection, healthcare cooperation, food safety, industrial development, agriculture, finance, and economic cooperation.
A significant document signed during the ceremony was the Program on Cooperation in the Industrial Sector for 2026-2028, which seeks to enhance industrial partnerships, technology exchange, and joint projects between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
The two countries also concluded an agreement on cooperation in the energy sector, underscoring their shared interest in expanding collaboration in energy production, transportation, and related industries.
In the agricultural sphere, the parties signed a memorandum to strengthen cooperation between their respective ministries of agriculture, while another memorandum was exchanged to promote collaboration between the Central Bank of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Finance and Economy.
The governments also signed an agreement outlining the main directions for developing and deepening economic cooperation, reflecting their intention to expand trade, investment, and business ties.
Furthermore, the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan exchanged a Cooperation Program for 2026-2029, aimed at enhancing diplomatic consultations and coordination on bilateral and international issues.
Officials described the agreements as an important step toward further strengthening the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, while creating new opportunities for cooperation across a broad range of sectors.
