Azerbaijan, UNESCO Discuss Expanding Cultural Cooperation and Heritage Protection

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture, Adil Karimli, held talks with Khaled El-Enany, Assistant Director-General for Culture at UNESCO, to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the cultural sector.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for collaboration in the protection of cultural heritage, museum development, creative industries, cultural diplomacy, and the implementation of international cultural projects.

The discussions also focused on potential cooperation under UNESCO’s SECURE project and its possible applications in safeguarding and preserving cultural heritage.

Minister Karimli briefed the UNESCO official on Azerbaijan’s cultural policy priorities, ongoing reforms in the sector, and initiatives aimed at expanding international cultural partnerships.

The parties exchanged views on further deepening cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO through the implementation of joint projects, the expansion of professional exchange programmes, and the promotion of innovative international cultural initiatives.

Both sides underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest and highlighted the role of culture in advancing sustainable development, fostering intercultural dialogue, and strengthening international solidarity.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Azerbaijan and UNESCO to broadening cultural collaboration and supporting initiatives that contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage and the promotion of global cultural understanding.
