Brunei Highlights AI Plans and Trade Support at APEC Meeting in South Korea

Jeju, The Gulf Observer: Brunei’s Finance and Economy Minister Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah shared the country’s plans to develop a national Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy at a key Asia-Pacific trade meeting.

Speaking at the APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) Meeting, the minister said Brunei aims to use AI in areas like healthcare and wants to ensure fair and safe use of technology for everyone. He also stressed the need to protect data and close digital gaps.

The minister called on APEC to support the World Trade Organization (WTO) and help improve its systems, especially in solving trade disputes. He also said countries must work together to make supply chains stronger and more reliable during uncertain times.

On the sidelines, he met Singapore’s Minister Grace Fu Hai Yien. They discussed closer ties, trade cooperation, and working together on energy and sustainability projects.

The Brunei delegation also joined a meeting of CPTPP countries and supported Costa Rica’s entry into the group. They agreed to hold talks with the European Union and ASEAN next year.

Brunei’s participation was part of the 2025 APEC theme: “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper.”
