China Prioritizes Ties with Thailand, Supports Bangkok’s Aspirations to Join BRICS

Rio de Janeiro, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed on Monday that China attaches high importance to China-Thailand relations as part of its neighborhood diplomacy strategy.
During a meeting with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized China’s readiness to collaborate closely with Thailand to deepen practical cooperation across various sectors. He underlined that such efforts would contribute greater certainty to regional peace and stability.
Wang also welcomed Thailand’s participation as a BRICS partner country and expressed China’s support for Thailand’s full engagement in BRICS cooperation mechanisms.
For his part, Maris praised China’s modernization efforts, noting that they would bring significant opportunities for Thailand. He reiterated Thailand’s aspiration to join the BRICS family, strengthen Global South cooperation, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to expedite the construction of the China-Thailand railway project, enhance international cooperation on the conservation of giant pandas, and work jointly to combat telecom fraud and other forms of cross-border crime. They also pledged to push forward the development of the Version 3.0 China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, aimed at strengthening regional economic integration.
The discussions took place on the sidelines of ongoing diplomatic engagements in Rio de Janeiro, highlighting the growing momentum in China-Thailand relations.
