China, Russia Vow to Deepen Strategic Coordination

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping, during his state visit to Russia on Thursday, reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening strategic coordination with Russia in response to growing global challenges, including unilateralism, power politics, and hegemonic practices.

President Xi made the remarks during high-level talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing that as major powers and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and Russia bear a special responsibility in promoting global stability, safeguarding the international order, and advancing multilateralism.

The two leaders held extensive discussions—both in small and large formats—exchanging in-depth views on bilateral relations and key international and regional issues. They reached broad consensus on unwaveringly deepening strategic cooperation and promoting the continued stable, healthy, and high-level development of China-Russia relations.

President Xi highlighted the steady growth in bilateral ties, underpinned by long-term good-neighborliness, deepening political trust, robust practical cooperation, and flourishing people-to-people exchanges. He stated that the China-Russia relationship has become more resilient and confident in the face of evolving global dynamics, and represents a strategic choice aligned with both countries’ development goals and the broader international demand for fairness and justice.

Underscoring the importance of historical memory, President Xi noted that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victories in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War, and the World Anti-Fascist War. He paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the peoples of China and Russia, who contributed significantly to global peace and human progress.

President Xi said that China and Russia will work together to uphold the correct historical perspective on World War II, safeguard the authority of the United Nations, defend the post-war international order, and protect the legitimate rights of developing nations. He further called for promoting an equal, multipolar global system and inclusive economic globalization.

The talks were followed by briefings from senior officials of both countries on cooperation across a wide range of sectors. President Xi urged both sides to resist external disruptions and build a more solid foundation for long-term collaboration.

He emphasized leveraging the complementary strengths of both countries—particularly in trade, energy, agriculture, aerospace, and artificial intelligence—and called for enhanced connectivity through alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union.

Cultural and educational exchanges will also be prioritized under the China-Russia Years of Culture initiative, with expanded cooperation in tourism, film, sports, and local government partnerships aimed at deepening mutual understanding among the peoples.

President Xi further advocated for strengthened coordination on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and BRICS. He called for greater unity among Global South countries to uphold genuine multilateralism and advance much-needed reforms in global governance.

Affirming China’s confidence in its path of modernization and development, President Xi assured that Beijing will continue to effectively manage its internal affairs despite external uncertainties. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to work with Russia to fulfill their shared responsibilities in stabilizing global supply chains, promoting sustainable development, and upholding international equity and justice.
