Former US President Trump Pledges to Roll Back Biden’s Gun Restrictions in NRA Address

NRA Address

Harrisburg, The Gulf Observer: Former President Donald Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential race, addressed thousands of supporters at an event organized by the National Rifle Association (NRA) on Friday. Trump asserted that he had staunchly defended gun rights during his tenure and vowed to overturn all restrictions implemented by President Joe Biden if re-elected.

Speaking at the Great American Outdoor show in Harrisburg, Trump promised to rescind regulations imposed by the Biden administration, including a rule limiting sales of pistol braces and other gun accessories. He assured his supporters that every action taken by Biden against gun owners and manufacturers would be reversed in his first week, possibly his first day, back in office.

During his speech, Trump emphasized his commitment to protecting the Second Amendment and resisting pressure to implement gun restrictions during his presidency from 2017 to 2021. He highlighted the support he received from the NRA, which played a crucial role in backing him during the 2016 race and throughout his administration.

The former President, aware of the significance of conservative gun owners to his re-election prospects, assured the crowd that if re-elected, “no one will lay a finger on your firearms.” Trump, in his eighth address in front of an NRA audience, urged his supporters to actively participate in the polls in November, recognizing the importance of winning battleground states.

In response to Trump’s speech, the Democratic National Committee erected a billboard in Harrisburg referencing comments the former President made following a school shooting in Iowa in January. The billboard reads, “Donald Trump to victims of gun violence: ‘get over it.'”

Trump’s address came a day after winning Republican presidential nominating caucuses in Nevada and the U.S. Virgin Islands, positioning him closer to securing the nomination and a potential rematch with President Biden. During the speech, Trump also questioned Biden’s mental acuity, referencing a Department of Justice special counsel report that highlighted memory lapses but did not recommend charges in a probe into classified documents.

The White House dismissed the report as “clearly politically motivated,” emphasizing Biden’s fitness for office. Trump, 77, has faced similar concerns about his own gaffes and statements, with Friday’s speech containing several false or misleading claims, including the assertion that he had won Pennsylvania twice.
