Tokayev, US House Delegation Discuss Strengthening Kazakhstan-US Strategic Partnership
Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with a delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives led by Jason Smith, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, to discuss the further development of Kazakhstan-US relations and opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation.
The delegation included members of Congress Greg Murphy, Carol Miller, Ronny Jackson, Wesley Bell and Ed Case.
Welcoming the US lawmakers, Tokayev highlighted the importance of their visit following Kazakhstan’s recent parliamentary elections to the newly established unicameral Qurultay. He described the elections as a historic milestone and a new stage in the country’s political modernization.
The Kazakh President said the new legislature was intended to enhance the effectiveness of the legislative process and improve the quality of lawmaking. He also emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy would become an important area of the Qurultay’s activities.
Tokayev stressed the importance of constructive dialogue between members of the US Congress and the Qurultay in promoting common priorities, strengthening mutual understanding and further deepening the Kazakh-American partnership.
During the meeting, Tokayev briefed the US delegation on Kazakhstan’s ongoing political and socioeconomic reforms, as well as measures aimed at modernizing public administration and building what he described as a fair and progressive state. He also outlined key provisions of Kazakhstan’s new Constitution and noted the broad public support it had received.
Particular attention was given to the strong momentum in Kazakhstan-US relations. Tokayev highlighted growing cooperation in trade, investment and the economy, as well as in advanced technologies, science, education and culture.
He said constructive and trust-based relations with US President Donald Trump had contributed to bilateral ties reaching an unprecedentedly high level.
The sides also exchanged views on cooperation within multilateral frameworks. Kazakhstan’s support for US initiatives aimed at promoting global and regional stability, including the Board of Peace and the Abraham Accords, was highlighted. The two sides also noted the importance of their cooperation in strengthening nuclear security and the international nonproliferation regime.
Jason Smith thanked President Tokayev for receiving the delegation and conveyed warm greetings from President Donald Trump. He said Trump appreciated the trusting and constructive relationship between the two leaders and looked forward to Tokayev’s upcoming visit to Miami for the G20 summit.
Smith said the delegation’s visit was aimed in part at exploring opportunities to further expand economic ties between Kazakhstan and the United States, stressing Washington’s commitment to substantive dialogue and stronger bilateral cooperation.
Following the meeting, Tokayev expressed confidence that his forthcoming visit to Miami would provide additional momentum to the development of the expanded strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and the United States.
