Ilham Aliyev Holds Telephone Conversation with Iranian President

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.

During the call, President Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan’s principled stance on the recent confrontation between Iran and Israel, expressing deep concern over the escalating tensions in the region. He extended his condolences over the loss of lives among Iranian citizens in the recent events, wished mercy upon the deceased, and conveyed hopes for the swift recovery of the injured.

The Azerbaijani leader congratulated President Pezeshkian on securing a ceasefire and de-escalating the Iran-Israel conflict. He emphasized that peace and stability are vital for the security and prosperity of the broader region.

In response, President Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude for President Aliyev’s condolences and support.

The two leaders also reviewed the state and future of bilateral relations. They fondly recalled President Pezeshkian’s recent successful visit to Azerbaijan and underscored the importance of continuing efforts to implement the agreements reached during that visit.

President Ilham Aliyev concluded the conversation by renewing his invitation for President Masoud Pezeshkian to participate in the upcoming Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit, which is scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan in early July.
