Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has said that Indonesia and Russia possess significant potential to deepen economic cooperation and support Indonesia’s long-term economic transformation through expanded collaboration in key strategic sectors.

Speaking at the Russian National Day commemoration in Jakarta on Monday evening, Airlangga said future cooperation between the two countries could play an important role in advancing Indonesia’s industrial development and sustainable economic growth.

“Moving forward, Indonesia-Russia cooperation has significant potential to support Indonesia’s economic transformation, particularly through industrial development, downstreaming, infrastructure development, energy security, digital transformation, technological development, and sustainable development,” he said.

The minister noted that both governments are committed to exploring new areas of cooperation to further strengthen their economic and industrial partnership.

Airlangga highlighted the signing of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement last December as a major milestone in bilateral relations, saying the agreement is expected to expand market access, facilitate trade, and enhance business engagement between Indonesia and the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, including Russia.

He also welcomed Indonesia’s participation as a partner country at INNOPROM, Russia’s premier international industrial trade exhibition, to be held in Yekaterinburg from July 6 to 9.

According to the minister, Indonesia’s participation in the exhibition is expected to promote closer cooperation between stakeholders from both countries in trade, science, value-added manufacturing, advanced industrial technology, the automotive industry, energy, and digital innovation.

“We are also committed to deepening our strategic partnership with Russia in line with Indonesia’s Eight Visions, Asta Cita,” Airlangga said.

Indonesia and Russia have maintained diplomatic relations for 76 years, with economic ties continuing to strengthen. Bilateral trade reached US$5 billion in 2025, reflecting a positive trend in commercial cooperation.

The minister also noted a steady increase in the number of Russian tourists visiting Indonesia, supported by the launch of direct Moscow–Denpasar flights, which have further enhanced connectivity between the two countries.
