Iran Criticizes Western Pressure on IAEA, Rejects Call for Comprehensive Nuclear Report

Vienna, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, Mohsen Naziri-Asl, has strongly criticized Western countries for what he described as the political exploitation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) platform. He asserted that the demand for a comprehensive report on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program is legally baseless and constitutes a dangerous precedent.

Speaking at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, Naziri-Asl emphasized that the request is unwarranted and undermines Iran’s extensive cooperation with the agency.

Iran’s Nuclear Program Among the Most Inspected Globally

Referring to the latest Safeguards Implementation Report (SIR 2023), the Iranian envoy stated that among 46 countries that have safeguards agreements but do not implement the Additional Protocol, Iran alone accounts for 75% of all IAEA safeguards inspections.

He further highlighted that about one-fourth of the IAEA’s total global inspections are conducted at Iran’s nuclear facilities, despite the fact that Iranian nuclear facilities constitute only 3% of the world’s total nuclear sites.

“This level of access for the agency would not have been possible without Iran’s continued cooperation,” he stressed, rejecting Western claims that Iran is failing to comply with international nuclear transparency measures.

The remarks by Naziri-Asl underscore Tehran’s growing frustration with Western efforts to politicize the IAEA’s mission, as Iran continues to face mounting pressure over its nuclear activities despite its extensive cooperation with the agency.
