Iran Pledges Retaliation for Hamas Chief's Killing, Seeks Stronger Ties with Italy

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to retaliate against the Zionist regime for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Speaking in a phone call with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, on Sunday night, Araghchi emphasized that “Iran’s response to the Israeli terrorist attack in Tehran is definitive and will be measured and calculated,” according to a report by NHC.

In a statement shared on his X social media account, Araghchi clarified, “We do not fear escalation, yet do not seek it—unlike Israel,” highlighting his conversation with Tajani, which also included discussions on regional dynamics.

During the call, Araghchi expressed his appreciation for the congratulatory message from the Italian Foreign Minister and noted that their extensive conversation focused on regional issues. This call is part of a series of congratulatory messages Araghchi has received over the past two days from foreign ministers, including those from Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.

Tajani, while expressing concern over the increasing insecurity in the region, urged all parties to exercise self-restraint and called on Iran to contribute to reducing tensions. Both ministers emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral relations and agreed on the need for continued consultations to address regional challenges.
