Israel Pounds Gaza Amid UNSC Meeting on Deadly Strike

Rafah, The Gulf Observer: Israel conducted fresh strikes in the southern Gaza city of Rafah early Wednesday, following a United Nations Security Council meeting convened to discuss a deadly attack that has drawn global condemnation.

AFP journalists in Rafah reported renewed strikes just hours after witnesses and a Palestinian security source confirmed that Israeli tanks had entered the heart of the city. The situation on the ground remains dire, with residents facing significant danger.

“People are currently inside their homes because anyone who moves is being shot at by Israeli drones,” said Abdel Khatib, a resident of Rafah.

The escalation comes despite warnings from US President Joe Biden, who has cautioned Israel against initiating a major military offensive in Rafah. However, the Biden administration maintains that Israel has not yet breached its critical boundaries.

“We have not seen them smash into Rafah,” stated John Kirby, spokesperson for the US National Security Council.

The situation continues to develop as international leaders and organizations call for restraint and the protection of civilians in the conflict zone.
