Kazakhstan Accelerates Plans for BYD Electric Vehicle Production
Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has directed officials to accelerate the launch of BYD electric vehicle production in the country, reaffirming the government’s commitment to developing a domestic electric mobility industry.
During a government meeting on Tuesday, Astana Motors Group Chairman Nurlan Smagulov announced that the company is preparing to begin production of BYD electric buses in Kazakhstan later this year. He said the project follows recent negotiations with senior executives of the Chinese automaker during a visit by a Kazakh delegation to Shanghai.
Smagulov also confirmed that domestic production of BYD passenger vehicles is scheduled to begin next year as part of the company’s long-term manufacturing strategy.
“We have carefully considered this initiative and plan to launch BYD passenger vehicle production next year,” Smagulov said. “Our company is committed to mastering BYD vehicle manufacturing to meet the growing needs of consumers and support the country’s economic development.”
Responding to the update, Prime Minister Bektenov emphasized that the government considers the establishment of a BYD electric vehicle manufacturing facility a strategic priority and pledged full state support for the project.
“We are interested in ensuring that the BYD electric vehicle plant is launched in Kazakhstan as soon as possible. Whatever support is required from the government will be provided,” Bektenov said, urging all relevant stakeholders to expedite the project’s implementation.
The initiative forms part of Kazakhstan’s broader efforts to strengthen its automotive manufacturing sector, promote clean transportation technologies and attract foreign investment into high-value industrial projects. The planned BYD production facility is expected to contribute to the country’s transition toward sustainable mobility while enhancing local manufacturing capacity and creating new employment opportunities.
