Kazakhstani Peacekeepers Set for Golan Heights Deployment
Almaty, The Gulf Observer: In a solemn ceremony held at the Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen in Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan, the nation’s Armed Forces bid farewell to the peacekeeping contingent embarking on a mission to the Golan Heights, according to media reports.
Under the banner of Kazakhstan, military personnel of the country’s Armed Forces stand prepared to undertake the UN mission in the contentious region of the Middle East. The inaugural group, comprising dedicated servicemen, will set off today for Damascus, commencing a year-long deployment. Following this period, the Ministry of Defense will orchestrate rotations.
The transfer of forces is slated to occur in three distinct stages, necessitating the meticulous relocation of personnel, military hardware, and armaments to the designated area of operation.
Upon arrival in the Syrian capital, the Kazakh servicemen will venture into one of the globe’s most volatile regions, the Golan Heights. This territory, predominantly under Israeli control, with a portion in the east administered by Syria, has been a focal point of contention for decades.
Initiated in the mid-1970s, the peacekeeping mission in the Golan Heights aims to mitigate tensions in the area. Undertaking this crucial endeavor, the Kazakh contingent will assume responsibility for monitoring the presence of Israeli and Syrian forces on the ground. Furthermore, they will undertake patrols, manage checkpoints, and provide essential aid to civilians.
The inaugural peacekeeping contingent from Kazakhstan comprises 139 meticulously selected servicemen, including seven proficient women adept in roles such as sniping, medical care, and culinary services.
The departure of this contingent signifies Kazakhstan’s unwavering commitment to global peacekeeping efforts and its determination to contribute positively to international stability.
