Kenyans Invited to Submit Proposals for 2025-26 Budget Statement

Nairobi, The Gulf Observer: National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has called on Kenyans to contribute ideas and proposals to shape the 2025/26 Budget Statement, set to be delivered to Parliament on June 12, 2025.

In a public notice issued on Monday, the Treasury encouraged citizens, civil society, and private sector stakeholders to submit views on economic policy, tax measures, and strategies that promote inclusive growth and sustainable recovery.

Contributors are urged to propose reforms aligned with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), including measures to strengthen financial and regulatory systems, and enhance opportunities for youth and women in entrepreneurship, employment, and leadership.

Submissions should also include recommendations on fiscal discipline and effective management of public resources. Input can be sent via email to budgetstatement@treasury.go.ke (with a copy to budgetstatement@gmail.com) by the deadline of May 26, 2025.

The move comes amid efforts to rebuild public trust following backlash over the 2024 Finance Bill, which triggered nationwide protests and forced the government to revise several contentious tax proposals.

Mbadi, appointed as Treasury chief earlier this year, is expected to present a balanced budget that reconciles the need for fiscal consolidation with the goals of economic growth and social equity.

The 2025/26 Budget is anticipated to set the tone for Kenya’s economic reforms, public spending priorities, and tax policy direction in the coming fiscal year.
