Morocco U20 Hold Top Spot After Goalless Draw with Nigeria in Cairo

Cairo, The Gulf Observer: Morocco’s U20 national team maintained their lead in Group B of the regional youth tournament after a tense 0-0 draw against Nigeria at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.

The Atlas Cubs, coached by Mohamed Ouahbi, dominated possession and showed greater attacking intent throughout the match, but were repeatedly frustrated by a resolute Nigerian backline. Despite creating several promising opportunities—particularly in a lively first half—Morocco’s forwards were unable to convert, lacking the composure and precision needed in front of goal.

Nigeria adopted a more conservative approach, sitting deep and attempting to strike on the counter. However, their offensive efforts were limited, and Moroccan goalkeeper Yanis Benchaouch remained largely untested for most of the match.

The second half saw Morocco increase their tempo and urgency in search of a breakthrough, but the final ball often let them down, and clear-cut chances remained elusive.

With this result, Morocco remain top of Group B on four points, edging Nigeria on goal difference. Tunisia, who also remain in contention, are third with three points, while Kenya sit bottom of the table with no points.

Morocco will look to seal qualification in their final group match, while Nigeria and Tunisia are still in the race for a spot in the knockout stage.
