President Prabowo Congratulates Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Re-election

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto extended his warm congratulations to Anthony Albanese on his re-election as Prime Minister of Australia during a phone call on Sunday afternoon, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between the two neighboring nations.
“President Prabowo Subianto personally conveyed his congratulations to Anthony Albanese on his successful re-election as the Prime Minister of Australia,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in an official statement on Sunday.
The Cabinet Secretariat also shared a photo of President Prabowo speaking with Prime Minister Albanese via telephone through its official social media platforms.
During the call, President Prabowo expressed hope that the Indonesia-Australia partnership would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation in addressing regional and global challenges.
Prime Minister Albanese secured a second term following a landslide victory in Australia’s general elections held on Saturday, May 3 (local time). His re-election marks a significant milestone, making him the first Australian prime minister in 21 years to win a second consecutive three-year term.
The Labor Party, under Albanese’s leadership, won 87 out of 150 seats in the House of Representatives, securing a parliamentary majority. In his victory speech delivered at 10 p.m. on election night, Albanese stated that Australians had chosen optimism and unity in confronting global challenges, “looking after each other while building for the future.”
President Prabowo and Prime Minister Albanese last met on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Lima, Peru, on November 14, 2024. The two leaders had previously held discussions during Prabowo’s official visit to Australia from August 19–20, 2024. On both occasions, they addressed key strategic issues and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening Indonesia-Australia relations across various sectors.
The reaffirmed partnership between the two countries is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
