Morocco’s Capital Rabat Named Among Best Places to Visit in 2027

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Morocco’s capital, Rabat, has been included in Lonely Planet’s “Best in Travel 2027” list, recognizing the city’s rich historical heritage, coastal attractions and vibrant cultural scene among 25 destinations worldwide recommended for travellers next year.
According to Morocco World News, the annual selection brings together recommendations from Lonely Planet’s writers, editors and travel community, highlighting destinations offering distinctive cultural, historical and tourism experiences.
Rabat has been recognized for its blend of historic landmarks, sandy beaches, cultural attractions and traditional Moroccan riads, which provide visitors with an opportunity to experience the country’s architectural heritage and contemporary urban lifestyle.
Among the city’s prominent attractions is the Kasbah of the Oudayas, overlooking the Bou Regreg River and the Atlantic Ocean. The historic quarter is known for its narrow streets and traditional blue-and-white houses. Other major landmarks include Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Chellah archaeological site, which preserves Roman and medieval remains.
Rabat’s historic centre was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012 in recognition of its distinctive combination of historic architecture and modern urban planning.
Beyond its historical significance, the Moroccan capital offers a diverse cultural environment featuring museums, art galleries, restaurants, cinemas and music festivals. The Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art showcases works by Moroccan and international artists, while the city’s tramway network connects several central districts.
The city’s Atlantic coastline, particularly the beaches around the Oudayas, further enhances its appeal to international visitors seeking seaside recreation alongside cultural exploration.
Rabat also offers an alternative to Morocco’s more heavily visited tourist destinations, including Marrakech and Essaouira, by combining historical sites with a contemporary cultural atmosphere and coastal lifestyle.
The “Best in Travel 2027” selection features destinations from across the world, including Oman, Italy’s Veneto region, Kenya’s Tsavo East and West national parks, Okinawa in Japan, Chengdu in China, Gujarat in India and Da Nang in Vietnam, alongside several destinations in North America, Europe and the Caribbean.
The inclusion of Rabat is expected to strengthen the Moroccan capital’s international tourism profile and draw greater attention to its historical monuments, cultural offerings and coastal attractions as travellers plan their journeys for 2027.
