Yangon, The Gulf Observer: The 103rd anniversary of International Cooperative Day was celebrated yesterday at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development’s meeting hall, highlighting the role of cooperatives in socioeconomic development and sustainable solutions.
Speaking at the ceremony, Union Minister U Hla Moe emphasized that the Cooperative Department has outlined clear visions, missions, policies, procedures, and a Nine-Point Action Plan aimed at enhancing the socioeconomic status of the people. As of now, Myanmar has established 38,638 cooperative societies, reflecting the government’s efforts to empower communities and promote inclusive economic growth.
The Minister also highlighted initiatives such as the distribution of quality seedlings, provision of agrochemicals, educational programs, market facilitation, and arrangements for purchasing animal feed to support cooperative societies.
Additionally, Cooperative Accounting Vocational Training Centres have been operational in Magway, Mandalay, Mawlamyine, and Pathein townships since the 2022-2023 academic year, contributing to capacity building and professional development in the cooperative sector.
U Hla Moe urged all attendees to embrace this year’s theme, “Cooperatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World,” underscoring the vital role cooperatives play in community resilience and sustainable development.
During the event, the Chairperson of the Central Cooperative Society Limited delivered remarks, followed by the reading of a message from the International Cooperative Federation.
