National Assembly

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: National Assembly (NA) Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn and his spouse on Tuesday met with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Malaysia as part of his official visit to the country.

Expressing his delight at the trip, Chairman Mẫn conveyed warm greetings from Party and State leaders to overseas Vietnamese in Malaysia. He emphasized that the visit was a valuable opportunity to meet with the community and update them on the country’s development.

Highlighting Việt Nam’s socio-economic progress after nearly four decades of Đổi mới (Renewal), the top legislator noted that the national GDP has reached approximately US$500 billion, with per capita income at about $4,700. Despite global and domestic headwinds, the economy recorded growth of 7.09 per cent in 2024 and 7.52 per cent in the first half of 2025, ranking among the fastest-growing worldwide.

He underscored the country’s achievements in maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, promoting growth, ensuring social welfare, strengthening national defence and security, intensifying anti-corruption efforts, streamlining administrative structures, and advancing foreign relations. He stressed that Việt Nam’s ultimate goal is to secure prosperity and happiness for its people, with a vision to become an upper middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income nation by 2045.

Chairman Mẫn further underlined the vital role of overseas Vietnamese, noting that the community of around six million people in more than 130 countries and territories continues to grow and make important contributions to the homeland’s development. He affirmed that the Party, State, Government, and National Assembly regard overseas Vietnamese, including those in Malaysia, as an inseparable part of the nation and a valuable resource for its progress.

The NA leader also briefed the community on new policies designed to support overseas Vietnamese, including amendments to laws on identity, housing, and land, as well as incentives to encourage investment, business activities, and intellectual contributions from abroad.
