Oman Launches 15th Edition of “Iqra” Reading Contest to Promote Youth Literacy

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: In a continued effort to foster a culture of reading among younger generations, the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science has launched the 15th edition of the “Iqra” Reading Contest (2026) for youth.

According to the organizing committee, registration for the competition opened today and will continue until October 1, 2026, which is also the deadline for submitting book summaries and completed entries.

The initiative aims to enhance students’ abilities in reading comprehension, summarization, and contextual analysis. It further seeks to cultivate an informed and knowledgeable generation capable of engaging with contemporary developments and global trends.

The contest is part of broader cultural efforts in Oman to promote literacy, intellectual growth, and academic excellence among students, encouraging lifelong learning and critical thinking skills.
