Oman Participates in UNESCO World Heritage Committee Session in South Korea
Seoul, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman is participating in the 48th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Committee, being held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from July 19 to 29, 2026.
The session has brought together representatives of States Parties to the 1972 Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage to discuss key issues related to the preservation and sustainable management of global heritage sites.
Oman’s delegation is headed by Amna Salim Al Balushi, Permanent Delegate of the Sultanate of Oman to UNESCO.
During the session, the committee is reviewing nominations for the inclusion of new cultural and natural sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List, alongside reports on the conservation status of existing World Heritage properties. Participants are also discussing policies and procedures aimed at strengthening the protection and management of World Heritage sites.
The agenda further includes deliberations on disaster risk management, strategies to address the impacts of climate change on heritage sites, and measures to enhance the role of local communities in safeguarding cultural and natural heritage.
Oman’s participation reflects its commitment to closely following developments in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention and contributing to international discussions on heritage protection and management. The Sultanate aims to reinforce its national efforts to preserve its rich cultural and natural heritage in accordance with internationally recognized standards.
