Oman to Develop Three New Mountain Trails in Dhofar to Boost Adventure Tourism

Salalah, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has unveiled plans to develop three mountain trails in the Dhofar Governorate, aiming to enhance adventure tourism in the region.

The ministry has allocated contracts to specialized local companies to execute the project, which focuses on improving infrastructure for adventure tourism and providing visitors with enhanced trekking and climbing experiences.

As part of the initiative, a Via Ferrata track—a high-wire climbing route—will be established in Jabal Samhan, offering adventurers a thrilling experience on iron tracks along steep mountain slopes. Additionally, designated mountain climbing tracks will be developed in Ain Hasheer, the Tabaldi trees area, and the Ain Ghaydh path, with signposts installed to guide visitors along the trails.

The project also includes the repainting of walking routes and paving parts of the paths to improve accessibility and enhance the experience for tourists.

Dhofar Governorate’s rich geographical diversity makes it a prime destination for adventure tourism, with over 40 well-known mountain trails featuring caves, water springs, and stunning landscapes. The ministry’s efforts are expected to further boost eco-tourism and attract outdoor enthusiasts to the region.
