Kazakhstan to Increase Oil Transit via Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan Route to 1.7 Million Tons in 2025

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan plans to increase the volume of oil transit through the Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan route to 1.7 million tons in 2025, according to Iskaziyev Kurmangazy, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas (KMG).

Speaking at an extended session of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, Kurmangazy stated that Kazakhstani oil transit along this route under an agreement with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has already been increased to 1.4 million tons, reflecting a 27 percent rise. He further noted that the figure is projected to reach 1.7 million tons within the next fiscal year.

The Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan oil transit agreement was formalized in 2022 with the signing of a master agreement between KMG and SOCAR. In March 2023, a trial shipment of 7,000 tons of oil from the Kashagan field was successfully transported via Azerbaijan, facilitated by Inpex North Caspian Sea Ltd.

Overall, Kazakhstan’s oil transportation volume in 2024 reached 83.5 million tons, marking a four percent increase compared to the previous year. The expansion of the Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan route is expected to further enhance Kazakhstan’s energy export capabilities and strengthen regional energy cooperation.
