President Aliyev Highlights Role of Orthodox Community in Strengthening Azerbaijan–Russia Relations

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has emphasized the significant role of the Orthodox Christian community in Azerbaijan as a bridge in interstate relations with Russia, during a meeting with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, according to News Hub Consultants.

Speaking at the meeting, President Aliyev underscored the historical ties, mutual respect, and cultural affinity between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Russia. “We traditionally demonstrate great sympathy, respect, and mutual support for each other,” he stated, adding that the Orthodox community in Azerbaijan is a vital element in fostering and maintaining these interstate bonds.

The president further noted that interfaith and interethnic harmony is a cornerstone of Azerbaijan’s stability and development. “In our comprehensive exchange on this issue, we spoke about the interfaith and interethnic peace, understanding, and mutual support in Azerbaijan. This is an important factor in the sustainable development of our countries,” he said.

President Aliyev praised the active role of the Orthodox community in national life, describing it as a contributor to the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and overall development, alongside other ethnic and religious groups residing in Azerbaijan.

Patriarch Kirill’s visit was welcomed as a symbol of deep-rooted religious and cultural ties between the two nations, reinforcing a message of unity, cooperation, and mutual respect.
