President Emomali Rahmon Reviews Grape Harvesting and Agricultural Production in Tursunzoda
Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, visited the Bogi Somon dehqan farm in Tursunzoda on Friday and reviewed the ongoing grape harvesting campaign.
The farm currently has nearly 500 hectares of productive vineyards, with harvesting underway and fresh produce being supplied to domestic and foreign markets. Around 10 grape varieties, including Husayni, white and black varieties, Shahona and President, are cultivated at the farm.
The farm has more than 1,100 shareholders, while up to 4,000 local residents are employed as seasonal workers during the harvest period.
As part of the implementation of Tajikistan’s Development Programme for Horticulture, Viticulture and Citrus Farming for 2025-2029, rehabilitation of 50 hectares of old vineyards at the Bogi Somon farm is currently underway. The initiative focuses primarily on planting export-oriented varieties, including Shahona, President, Avatar and Cardinal grapes, which are in high demand on international markets.
President Rahmon urged farmers to make full use of available opportunities, observe modern cultivation practices, ensure timely harvesting and further expand the farm’s export potential.
Since Tajikistan gained independence, 2,730 hectares of new vineyards have been established in Tursunzoda with the support and guidance of the President, with export-oriented grape varieties predominantly cultivated there. This year, grape growers in the city are expected to harvest crops from 3,970 hectares of vineyards.
To take advantage of the abundant harvest, the cold storage facility of the Bogi Somon farm is preparing to store up to 3,000 tonnes of agricultural produce before the onset of cold weather. The produce is intended to be supplied to consumers during the winter and spring seasons of 2026-2027.
Over the past five years alone, 33 new cold-storage facilities have been established in Tursunzoda, bringing their total number to 83. These facilities now have a combined capacity to store 26,470 tonnes of agricultural products.
During his visit to an exhibition of agricultural products from Tursunzoda, President Rahmon was briefed on the progress achieved in the agricultural sector. Officials noted that sustained government support, stronger cooperation between science and agricultural production, improved farming expertise and the modernization of cultivation processes had contributed to increased agricultural output.
Over the past five years, 67.4 hectares of greenhouses have been constructed in Tursunzoda as part of efforts to modernize agricultural production. The total greenhouse area in the agro-industrial city has now reached 84 hectares.
The expanded greenhouse sector has enabled year-round cultivation of vegetables, contributing to increased food production and meeting consumer demand for fresh vegetables during the winter and spring seasons.
During the agricultural exhibition, President Rahmon instructed officials and farmers to ensure timely and loss-free harvesting, make full use of opportunities to expand agricultural exports, strengthen food reserves in warehouses and cold-storage facilities, and seek to obtain three to four harvests annually from agricultural land.
The wide-ranging display of agricultural products, presented in various forms, highlighted the hard work of local farmers and the abundance of agricultural produce in the region. The achievements also demonstrated the practical implementation of the Government of Tajikistan’s strategic objective of ensuring food security.
