Rome, The Gulf Observer: The UAE national modern sailing team in the Optimist Class secured ninth place globally at the International Golden Cup held in Riva del Garda, Italy.

The UAE team delivered a strong performance, with sailors Hamad Al Muhairi, Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Zayed Al Hosani, Karolina Bajak and John Hervey contributing to the team’s achievement on the international stage.

The result further highlights the ongoing success of the UAE Sports Talent Care Committee and the Ministry of Sports in developing and supporting national sporting talent.

The five sailors were included in the national talent programme last June, providing them with enhanced opportunities for training, development and participation in international competitions.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, praised the team’s performance and technical preparedness, describing the result as a positive reflection of the progress being made in developing young Emirati and national sporting talent.

He also commended the continued support of Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sports Development and Competitiveness Sector, whose national talent-development initiatives have contributed to the athletes’ development and improved competitive performance.

The UAE’s ninth-place finish at the International Golden Cup underscores the growing capabilities of its young sailors and the effectiveness of sustained efforts to prepare national athletes for international competition.
