President Ilham Aliyev and Ramzan Kadyrov Visit Baku White City
Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Ramzan Kadyrov, Head of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation, visited Baku White City on October 10.
Ruslan Sadikhov, Executive Director of the Baku White City project, briefed Ramzan Kadyrov on the facilities and amenities in the area.
The area was formerly known as the “Black City.” For more than 150 years it was polluted by oil industry waste and contained numerous oil pools. At the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, a major environmental project cleaned up the site and turned it into a modern residential district.
Baku White City was launched on December 24, 2011, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. It is regarded as one of the leading examples of modern urban planning.
The project was built on the principles of environmental sustainability and smart-city planning. Baku White City features wide streets, green spaces, modern international sculptures and the latest innovations in urban design.
